Australian Open's Asia-Pacific Wildcard Play-offs conclude

In Zhuhai, Guangdong province,the Australian Open’s Asia-Pacific Wildcard Playoffs have concluded. The winners will get spots in the main draw of the season’s first Grand Slam in January, and the event drew plenty of young players from the region, who were eager to chase a place on one of the sport’s biggest stages in Melbourne.

Entering its fifth year, this event has become a springboard for young tennis players to lift their careers to a new level. This is also the third straight year that the wildcard playoffs have been held in China.

Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan beat South Korea’s Lee Duck-Hee 7-5, 6-1 to win a spot in the main draw of the men’s singles.

The women’s singles final saw Luksika Kumkhum of Thailand taking on Chang Kai-Chen from Chinese Taipei. Ranked 176th in the world, Kumkhum went on to prevail 6-4, 6-3, earning the precious wildcard.
