CBA: Guangdong Southern Tigers extend win streak to 10 games

The Guangdong Southern Tigers hosted the Guangsha Lions. This was a big game that saw the two hottest teams in the league put their winning streaks on the line. Guangdong came in on a nine game run while Guangsha were even better with eleven in a row, but only one would streak would survive after Wednesday night.   

Coach Li Chunjiang has led the Southern Tigers to 7 CBA titles, and after this jumper from Guangsha's Hu Jinqiu, Guangdong's lead is down to six points.

Hu then delivers again with 30 seconds left in the first quarter. The 19-year-old would go on to make 9 of 11 attempts for 18 points on the night.

In the second Q, Yi Jianlian finds Carlos Boozer in the paint, and the American import goes off the glass. Guangdong lead by one after the first half.

In the third, Donald Sloan finds Yi and the power forward connects from distance. Yi would go on to tally a team-high 28 points, including 5 three-pointers.

Early in the fourth, Guangdong trail by three, but captain Zhou Peng nails this jumper to cut the deficit to 1, a minute and a half minutes in.

Sloan then steps up and takes over. The American international drives in and sends Liu Zheng crashing to the floor much to the delight of the home crowd, and Guangdong lead by one.

A minute later Yi finds the wide open Sloan and the 28-year-old hits the triple to give the Southern Tigers a 4-point lead. Guangsha are unable to come back and Guangdong win 106-100 for their 10th in a row.


Brown scores 32 as the Northeast Tigers edge the Ducks

Also on Wednesday, the Jilin Northeast Tigers hosted the Beijing Ducks in Changchun. Jilin were helped by the three-foreign-players policy which was designed to help the weaker teams in the league. But the star of the first quarter is local lad Cui Jinming who would grab the rebound and get two off the glass. Jilin up by 4.

And three minutes later Cui is at it again as the 24-year-old drives in and gets the lay-up despite tough defence from Fang Shuo. Jilin lead by 11 after the opening Q.

To the third where Stephon Marbury bulls in in for the lay up cutting Beijing's deficit to six.

Sun Yue helps on the defensive end as the Chinese comes up with the big block. (REPLAY) Great defence from the former national team guard.

In the final quarter, Zhang Qipeng draws the defence and finds Randolph Morris who throws down to tie it up at 81.

Zhang is the provider again as Zhai Xiaochuan gets the jumper to give Beijing a two point lead.

But the Ducks' lead is short-lived as Jabari Brown dials connects from downtown with less than ten seconds to play. Game high 31 for the American.

With 2.6 seconds to go, Beijing down by 1, Zhang has a chance fro a three but misses and Jilin hangs on to win 100-99, thier second victory in a row.

In other action, Xinjiang beat Shanxi by 3 points on the road. American import Darius Adams had 38 points, 8 rebonds and 8 assists for the Flying Tigers. Bayi beat Fujian and Shavlik Randolph nailed 33 points and 14 rebounds to help Liaoning defeat Tianjin.
