Saturday is International Anti-Corruption Day, and we begin the program with China's achievements in this area. The country's anti-corruption watchdog says some 2,400 criminals were extradited from as many as 70 countries in the past two years. Through cooperation with those countries, China also managed to recover more than 8.5 billion yuan, or about U.S.$1.2 billion.

In 2016 alone, some 900 criminals returned to China and more than 2 billion yuan in illegal assets were recovered. On top of that, many continue to turn themselves in, including the country's top graft fugitive, Yang Xiuzhu, who gave herself up after 13 years on the run. The number absconding cases also continues to drop.
