Central bank of S. Korea discusses Park impeachment

12-10-2016 05:09 BJT

South Korea's central bank said Friday that it would keep a close watch on financial markets. That was after lawmakers voted to impeach President Park Geun-hye.

Central bank officials said at an emergency meeting that they would review measures they could take to guard against political uncertainty after the impeachment vote.

Central bank governor Lee Ju-yeol said that political uncertainties could increase risks to the economy and intensify market swings. The central bank said it would hold another meeting Saturday to reassess the situation.
