Representatives of China and South Korea meet in Beijing

12-11-2016 05:35 BJT

Wu Dawei, China's Special Representative for Korean Peninsula affairs, met Kim Hong-kyun from South Korea's Foreign Ministry in Beijing on Friday. Wu said China has insisted all along on the denuclearization of the peninsula, as a close neighboring country.

He called for an early resumption of the Six-Party Talks to solve the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue through political and peaceful means. Wu also repeated China's strong opposition to the deployment of the THAAD anti-missile system on the Korean Peninsula, as it seriously undermines the strategic security interests of China and other countries in the region.

The Six-Party Talks, involving China, the DPRK, United States, Republic of Korea, Russia and Japan, were a multilateral mechanism aimed at solving the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue. The talks began in 2003 and stalled in December 2008.
