Islamic State group fighters are trying to retake the Syrian city of Palmyra from government troops. Russian jets have stepped up strikes on militant targets in and around the city.  Palmyra is a UNESCO world heritage site.  ISIL gained control of the city in May 2015, but government forces retook Palmyra in March earlier this year.
