Sunday marked the 15th anniversary of China's entry into the World Trade Organization. The day should have been the end of the country being treated as a "non-market economy" and instead be officially recognised as a "market economy." But many prominent WTO members -- including the U.S. Japan and some European countries -- say they will refuse to grant China the status.

Beijing is urging its fellow WTO members to stop using the "surrogate country" approach against Chinese exports. That means it wants the nations to stop using prices in a third country as a benchmark to calculate the normal value of exports from China.
