Taiwan officials fear impact of Trump comments

12-13-2016 12:13 BJT

Trump's recent comments have officials in Taiwan worried over cross-strait ties.

The Mainland Affairs Council of Taiwan says it will continue to promote the stability of relations across the strait. It also says Taiwan is committed to protecting the interests of its people.

A Kuomintang Party official says tensions across the strait threaten global stability. He says the phone call between Tsai Ing-wen and Donald Trump is worrying. He calls on authorities in Taiwan to prioritize peace, stability and development across the strait.

Taiwan's former representative to the United States says changing the "One-China policy" is difficult, although Trump is not a typical politician. He says it will take time to see what Trump really wants after he takes office.
