China launches dispute resolution case

12-13-2016 17:01 BJT

China is fighting for its right at the World Trade Organization to be recognized as a Market Economy.

It's launched dispute settlement procedures over the "surrogate country" approach, which is employed by the United States and the European Union to calculate anti-dumping measures against Chinese exports.

A spokesperson for China's Commerce Ministry said on Monday that, in accordance with Article 15 of the accession protocol signed when China joined the WTO in 2001, the surrogate country approach expires on December 11, 2016.

Unfortunately, the US and the EU have not fulfilled their international obligations to abandon this approach.

The spokesperson stressed that by lodging the case at the WTO, China is protecting its rights and the seriousness of international trade rules.
