In Europe, football and the biggest club competition in the world, the UEFA Champions League continues. On Monday the draw for the last 16 was held in Nyon, Switzerland where officials from the remaining clubs were on hand to find out who they would play in the first round of the knockout stages.

And perhaps the most unlucky team of the night was EPL side Arsenal who certainly did not receive the reward they would have been hoping for after winning their group.

After coming out on top of Group A, the Gunners had a good chance for a favourable draw, but instead they get German champions Bayern Munich. This will be the third time in five years for the two sides to square off at this stage as Arsenal look end their six year run of elimination in the last 16.

"Well, obviously it is going to be a very tough draw against Bayern Munich. But to keep things in context, we have now been in the knockout phase of the Champions League for 14 years running," said David Miles, Arsenal Club secretary.

"And we have played Bayern Munich some five or six times over the last ten years or so. So we are looking forward this time to actually beating them because every time up to now, they have beaten us unfortunately."

Defending champions Real Madrid will host Napoli. The Spanish La Liga leaders are a good bet to become the first team to retain the title, with the help of reigning Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo.

"Yes, it is a stiff challenge and we will do our best to make history. No team has been able to win this competition two years in a row. So it is an additional challenge for our players," said Emilio Butragueno, Real Madrid head of public relations.

The other big heavyweight tussle in the next round sees Spanish champions Barcelona on the road first to play French champs Paris Saint-Germain. Enlgish title holders Leicester are the only debutant in the round of 16, and were drawn to play first at Sevilla.

Manchester City meet Monaco, Benfica are up against Borussia Dortmund while FC Porto will face Juventus, and Bayer Leverkusen entertain Atletico Madrid. The first legs will be played from February 14th to the 22nd, with the reverse fixtures from March 7th to the 15th.
