In Brazil, the country's football association held its annual League Awards on Monday night at its headquarters in Rio de Janeiro, and the event was certainly an emotional one, as the plane crash that claimed most of Chapecoense's players and staff dominated the ceremony.

Late Chapecoense goalkeeper Danilo won a fans award for the best player in the league. The trophy was collected by his mother, Ilaides Padilha, who became a symbol of the tragedy after an emotional interview given to a journalist, where she paused in between answering questions, and hugged one of the reporters.

She also hugged the host of the ceremony, saying "That's the way I keep standing on my feet. I hug you and you hold me."

"I felt a big desire to hug that reporter at that moment. At that moment, that strength came inside me. Because everybody was suffering, the city of Chapeco was deeply suffering," said Ilaides Padilha, Danilo's mother.

"A very sad moment. And I didn't think that hug would make everything happen like this. Now, people want to hug me. And that's what's giving me strength AND keeping me on my feet."
