Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has congratulated his newly elected New Zealand counterpart Bill English. Li also praised China and New Zealand's strategic partnership, as the two nations enjoy a wide range of common interests -- with a robust relationship in various fields.

The premier added that while the partnership has brought tangible benefits to both sides, he hopes to further strengthen bilateral ties based on principles of mutual respect and equality.

English was sworn in as Prime Minister Monday, following John Key's shock resignation last week.
