One of China’s most decorated athletes of all time, legendary diver Wu Minxia, announced her retirement from the sport on Wednesday. The Chinese called an end to her long career that resulted in many moments of glory.

On Wednesday, the Asian, Olympic and World champion Wu posted to social media saying: “6 years old and learning how to dive, 13 years old and on the national team, 25 years and time flies. Thank you all for your support.”

The coach of China’s diving team, Zhou Jihong, confirmed with the Beijing Youth Daily Wu’s decision to retire.

The prolific diver participated in four Olympic Games, spanning from 2004 to 2016. Her five Olympic gold medals have also made history for China at the Games, as she became the first woman diver to win gold in a diving event in three consecutive Olympic Games.

But the 31-year-old has suffered a series of injuries with age also making things difficult for her to continue her career.
