Chinese car owners saw a big jump in prices at the pump this week -- the biggest single increase in the past four years.

According to the National Development and Reform Commission, gasoline and diesel prices went up 435 yuan and 420 yuan per metric ton respectively.

Average retail prices for gasoline and diesel had been fluctuating around 5 yuan per liter since the start of the year. For people driving a car with a 50-liter fuel tank, that means it will now cost an extra 16 yuan to get a full tank.
