The Chinese government reiterates the importance of its one-China principle, saying the Taiwan issue concerns China's core interests. The remarks come after US president Barack Obama's warning, that President-elect Donald Trump should be more careful when speaking about Taiwan. 

"The one-China principle is a broad consensus of the international community and the prerequisite for China to develop relations with other countries. The Taiwan issue involves China's national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and core interests. It is one of the most important and sensitive topics in China-US relations. We hope the US can stick to the principle and the three joint communiques, and handle this problem carefully," said Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying.
