The UN Security Council has unanimously passed a resolution to send humanitarian observers to oversee the evacuation process in eastern Aleppo. This rare agreement was a compromise of two proposed resolutions. One by France, the other by Russia.

The resolution effectively greenlights the deployment of UN monitors to the ground in eastern Aleppo, because consensus over the more crucial political solution to resolve the Syrian conflict is still out of reach.
