The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences has released a Blue Paper on the country's social development in 2016. The Paper covers, among others, China's urbanization, new trends in social media, and pollution. CCTV's Pan Deng has more.

The Blue paper says China's social development is generally stable. Both average income and consumption are growing. And here are some new trends catching the eyes of the public.

The paper shows that China's urbanization process is now 57 percent in 2016, and it's expected to reach 60 percent by 2020. That means 17 percent of the Chinese population will become urban residents. However, the Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Li Peilin says the process is likely to slow in the next five years. It's because of the 'new normal' in the Chinese economy.

One of the biggest influences in Chinese society is social media. Some want to be professional gamers, social-media writers, or even hosts on live-streaming platforms. However, there's a generation gap. About 76 percent of young people say they can imagine careers in such roles, while only 18 percent of their parents agree. The paper says more parents believe social media has made their contact with their children more frequent.

The paper also addresses pollution. It says environmental deterioration continues. The paper says pollution has triggered social unrest. Demonstrations were held against some major industrial-and-energy projects, which people think will be new sources of pollution.
