NBA: Gasol's career high 38 points snaps Grizzlies three-game skid

The Memphis Grizzlies on the road to face the Detroit Pistons with both team's coming in on three-game skids. One man in need of a good performance was Grizzlies centre Marc Gasol who's only been shooting 29 percent from the field during their recent slump, but the Spaniard would step it up in this one when the Grizz needed him most.

Pick up the action with Memphis up by three late in the first quarter. Gasol is wide open at the top of the arc and he connects on the triple to make it 20-14 Grizzlies.

In the third Detroit get within 6 of their opponents but Gasol keeps them at bay and being left alone in the paint to finish with a flush that extends their lead to eight.

Detroit come back and are able to make it a four point game after some good work from Reggie Jackson who sends a long pass to set up Kentavious Caldwell-Pope for three. Memphis lead 63-59.

But on a night where Gasol would equal is career best, the Grizzlies come out on top. The big Spanish centre spots up from the land beyond once again, nothing but net. He would finish with 38 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds in a 98-86 win for Memphis.

Elsewhere, 42 and tenb rebounds from Russell Westbrook helped OKC win 121-110 over New Orleans. The Chicago Bulls lost for the fourth time in five games by going down to Washington.

Houston made it 11 wins in 12 after by beating Phoenix 125-111, while Sacramento edged Utah 94-93. Andrew Wiggins lead the way for Minnesota with 19 points as they topped Atlanta by eight, and Kyrie Irving had 31 points and a career high 13 assists in Cleveland's 113-102 victory over Milwaukee.
