Two separate explosions involving fireworks in northern China have left 7 people dead on Saturday.

One blast ripped through a firecracker workshop in the city of Tangshan, which is a two hour drive from Beijing, killing two and injuring 6 others. The explosion caused damages to buildings as far as one kilometer away.

The other blast occurred in Dezhou city of Shandong Province. The explosion was triggered by a pile of fireworks stored in someone's home.

Five people were killed in the blast, and authorities have evacuated all other residents living nearby.

The two incidents come as China is just one month away from the Chinese New Year, or Spring Festival celebration. It's a time when the firework industry is busy and lucrative as it prepares for the festivities.
