The battalion consists of 700 soldiers and officers. During their mission, they performed long-tour patrols, movements dealing with emergency conflicts and carried out duties as armed guards. Other tasks included patrolling UN camps and protecting civilian regions.
Two Chinese soldiers were killed during the peacekeeping effort. The battalion was awarded a medal of honor for peace by the UN. The third peacekeeping infantry battalion left China early this month and are currently in position.
