VLADIVOSTOK, Russia, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- The final batch of multipurpose Su-34 fighter bombers for this year has arrived at the Eastern Military District's air unit in the region of Khabarovsk, a military officer said on Friday.
"Several new Su-34 fighter bombers have flown over 3,500 kilometers from Novosibirsk to the airfield of permanent basing after refueling at the airport Domna," RIA Novosti news agency said on Friday, citing the head of the Eastern Military District press service Col. Alexander Gordeyev.
The military officer said the Su-34 fighter bombers would be put into operation at the beginning of 2017.
Sukhoi Su-34 fighter bombers are designed to hit ground targets as well as naval ones. They are capable of hitting even small mobile targets and aerial targets in daytime and at night under both favorable and adverse weather conditions.
Established in 2010 and headquartered in the eastern Khabarovsk region, the Eastern Military District covers the former Far Eastern Military District and part of the former Siberian Military District.
