With the eve of Spring Festival falling on Friday, the nationwide travel rush continues as millions are heading home to welcome the Year of the Rooster with their families.

Transport Ministry data shows a total of over 83 million passengers are expected to travel by rail, road, air and water on Wednesday. The China Railway Corporation says about 9.5 million trips were scheduled, with the passenger flow in the Beijing Railway Station hitting a 20-year high.

The Beijing International Airport will see some 283,000 passengers. The travel peak by air is expected to last through Friday.

In Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, people are queueing at the check-in counter and security channel. Airport staff say oversized luggages have increased a lot since it's a tradition for all Chinese to take home some gifts during the festive period.

And the total passenger flow in Shanghai Pudong International Airport hits a record high since the beginning of the Spring Festival travel rush. The airport says many are heading abroad for family travel.
