Saturday will mark the Lantern Festival for Chinese. The traditional festival falls on the 15th day of the first month of the Chinese lunar calender. Chinese people celebrate the day by eating tang-yuan, or dumpling balls made of sweet glutinous rice flour, and sightseeing lantern displays.

But this year, people may find the festival slightly different, as manufacturers come up with new tastes for tang-yuan and new designs for lanterns. Besides usual fillings like sesame and peanuts, consumers can also buy tang-yuan with fruits, sweet potatoes or even chocolate inside.

And while traditional flower or animal shaped lanterns are still popular, there is a growing number of lanterns with new appearances, and some of them are inspired by cartoon characters.
