BEIJING, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- China on Wednesday pledged to strengthen communication and coordination with relevant sides, including the United States, to seek resumption of talks on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang made the remarks at a daily press briefing in response to a phone call between Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi and U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Tuesday.

"China is committed to breaking the negative cycle of the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue," Geng said, adding that China will push forward the resumption of the Six-Party Talks through a "parallel-track approach".

The approach, which calls for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and for the Korean armistice to be replaced with a peace treaty, is based on considering the concerns of relevant parties as well as the the current situation in the peninsula, according to Geng.

China will work with relevant sides to safeguard the peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula and properly settle the nuclear issue in a constructive manner, he said.
