China released an annual report on the human rights situation in the US on Thursday. The report says that the US posed once again as 'the judge of human rights' by issuing 'the Country Reports on Human Rights Practices for 2016' earlier this month.

The Chinese paper says that the US pays no attention to its own terrible human rights problems, while casting blame on the human rights situation in many countries. The paper cited concrete facts showing the deterioration in some key aspects of human rights in the US. These include the occurrence of gun-related crimes which stayed at a high level. Over 15,000 people died of gun shootings in the US, with some 50,000 gun-related incidents occurring in the single year of 2016.

The report also states that roughly 2.2 million people were imprisoned in the US in 2014, and almost one in three adults in the US has some form of criminal record. The paper also points out a shrinking middle class, 25 million people in the US fared much worse in economic terms in 2016 compared to the period between 2000 to 2008. And, one in seven Americans, or at least 45 million people, live in poverty.
