This year's work report of the National People's Congress Standing Committee looked back on the interpretation of Article 104 of Hong Kong's Basic Law by the legislature, which it said highlighted the country's determination to block all attempts for Hong Kong independence. Later this month, the election of the region's fifth chief executive will be held. CGTN's Tang Bo sat down with Tan Huizhu, the head of Hong Kong's delegation at the National People's Congress, to talk about that election and indeed Beijing's interpretation of the article.

Lawyer Tan Huizhu is a popular figure in Hong Kong because of her endless work protecting the legitimate rights of her clients, and she says she's committed to legal dignity, fairness, ethics and morality. So I asked her about the interpretation of the Basic Law by the National People’s Congress’s standing committee late last year, which has aroused much controversy.
