Xi calls for greater reform efforts

BEIJING, March 24 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday underlined the importance of implementation, urging leading officials to keep in mind the overall situation while pushing forward with reform.

Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks while presiding over the 33rd meeting of the Central Leading Group for Deepening Overall Reform, which he heads.

Liu Yunshan, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and deputy head of the Central Leading Group for Deepening Overall Reform, attended the meeting.

At the meeting, officials reported on their work in environmental protection, the judicial system, poverty relief, rural affairs, the Shanghai FTZ, state-owned enterprises and others.

Plans to deepen reform and opening up in Shanghai FTZ and in science and technology were approved.

Attendees also deliberated reports on schooling in less developed areas, family doctors, the river chief system, giving rural migrant workers urban citizenship, and others.
