Premier Li Keqiang this morning issued a State Council decree to appoint Carrie Lam as the fifth chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Lam is expected to meet President Xi Jinping following her official appointment. She will also meet the press and people from Hong Kong who are working and studying in Beijing later in the afternoon.

Lam arrived in Beijing on Sunday and has met with China's top legislator Zhang Dejiang and Wang Guangya, director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office. It's Lam's first official trip to Beijing since the March 26th election. She will officially take office on July 1st.
