British Prime Minister Theresa May says the June 8th general election is "the most important election for this country" in her lifetime. She was speaking while campaigning in central England on Saturday. The prime minister also believes the election would strengthen her hand in negotiating Britain's exit from the European Union.

May: June snap election

British Prime Minister Theresa May says the June 8th general election is "the most important election for this country" in her lifetime.

"Every vote that is cast for me and for Conservatives will be a vote for strong and stable leadership to take this country through Brexit and beyond. We do need the certainty that this election will bring over the next five years," May said.

May says her government is trying to deliver on last year’s referendum result by making sure Britain regained control and struck new trade deals. Last Tuesday, the Prime Minister called for a snap election, and Parliament approved. May's Conservatives command 21 points ahead of Labour in recent polls.  She hopes to boost a slim working majority of 17 seats in Parliament to help pass both domestic and Brexit-linked legislation.
