Chinese actress Fan Bingbing joins jury of 70th Cannes Film Festival

PARIS, April 25 (Xinhua) -- Chinese actress and producer Fan Bingbing joined the eight-member 70th Cannes Film Festival's jury chaired by Spanish director and screenwriter Pedro Almodovar, organizers said on Tuesday in a statement.

Four female and four male juries will select among the films of official competition with Almodovar. On May 28, the jury members will reveal the prizewinners during the closing ceremony, after which the film winning the Palme d'Or, the festival top award, will be screened.

Alongside Fan Bingbing, the other three female members of the jury are German director, screenwriter and producer Maren Ade, American actress and producer Jessica Chastain and French actress, screenwriter, director and performer Agnes Jaoui.

The four male members of the jury are South korean director, screenwriter and producer Park Chan-wook, American actor, producer and musician Will Smith, Italian director and screenwriter Paolo Sorrentino and French composer Gabriel Yared.

Fan, born in 1981, became famous in 1998 with the mega-hit TV series "My Fair Princess." In 2003, she played in "Cell Phone," the biggest hit of the year in China. Since then, she has played roles in "Lost in Beijing"(2007), "Buddha Mountain" (2011) and "Double Xposure" (2012).

She has recently received the Best Actress Award at the San Sebastian Film Festival and the 11th Asian Film Festival for "I Am not Madame Bovary" (2016).

The 70th Cannes Film Festival will be held on May 17-28 and 18 films will compete for the Palme d'Or.
