China's holiday weekend has begun. About one-tenth of China's population is expected to travel over the Labor Day weekend.

Chinese tourism authorities estimate about 130 million trips from Saturday to Monday, and 11 billion U.S. dollars in business during the holidays.

Nearly 40 percent of tourists choose self-driving and over 50 million passengers will travel by train.

According to the railway department, the travel peak appears on Saturday with 13.6 million passengers expected to travel.

Suburban areas and nearby provinces are more preferred.

At the scenic Wutai Mountain spot in Shanxi Province, for example, more than 13,000 tourists flocked to the Buddhist mountain on Saturday morning.

The most popular destinations include Beijing, Shanghai, Xining and Lhasa, as well as Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.

For overseas traveling, Singapore, Thailand, Japan, Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, the United Kingdom and some African countries are the top destinations.
