UNITED NATIONS, May 8 (Xinhua) -- A photo exhibition on China's Belt and Road Initiative opened at the UN headquarters on Monday, showing the outcomes the initiative has achieved so far and its future prospects.

The photos depict such historic moments as when the UN Security Council adopted a resolution incorporating the initiative for the first time, and when the Addis Ababa-Djibouti Railway built by a Chinese company officially opened to traffic.

China has proposed the Belt and Road initiative to build a trade and infrastructure network along and beyond the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, which offers opportunities for cooperation and development for all countries amid a sluggish world economy.

At the opening ceremony, China's Ambassador to the UN Liu Jieyi said the Belt and Road Initiative is "an international public good" that benefits all parties.

"With its focus on various aspects of connectivity regarding policy, infrastructure, trade, finance, people-to-people...the initiative widens and deepens partnerships in multi-dimensional and multi-layered networking," said Liu.

Amina Mohammed, UN deputy secretary-general, said that the initiative is a demonstration of a global partnership that really fits the ambition of the UN agenda for sustainable development.

She said by empowering women and young people, creating job opportunities and bringing people together, the initiative offers a chance to unlock trillions for investment.

Entitled "Strengthening International Cooperation for Win-Win Development," the exhibition is scheduled to run from May 8 to May 12. It is organized by the Chinese Mission to the UN and Xinhua News Agency North America.

Zhou Xiaozheng, director of Xinhua News Agency North America, said putting on such an exhibition at the UN headquarters is of significance since more UN member states and UN agencies are seeking cooperation with China in this regard.

It is also a good timing as UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will attend the upcoming Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing, he noted.

Anatolio Ndong Mba, ambassador of the Equatorial Guinea to the UN, told Xinhua that the photos reflect the dynamism of China's development in economy, infrastructure and communication.

Hailing the initiative as "formidable," Ndong Mba said that it is going to be a complete success.
