While addressing delegates participating in the Thematic Session on Infrastructure Connectivity, one of the 6 parallel sessions of the BRF, State Minister of METI (Minstry of Economy, Trade and Industry), Yoshifumi Matsumura said Tokyo endorses operating high-quality B&R infrastructure investment.

He believes Japan supports the view that infrastructure promoted under the B&R Initiative would benefit all countries concerned and the enterprises involved.

But he stressed infrastructure investments should be operated in a manner consistent with international standards and utilized with assurance of open and fair access to all nations.

He proposed: (1) economic efficiency from the view point of the life-cycle-cost; (2) resilience and safety; (3) generating employment and building human capitals; (4) positive effects on society and environment; (5) consistency with economic and development strategies of partner countries.

He vowed Japan’s participation in the B&R by helping Asian countries develop procurement systems and build human resources to assess the quality of infrastructure by deploying experts and leading training programs.

He hopes high-quality infrastructure investment connected to the B&R, could boost the global economy in a sustainable manner.
