Editor's foreword: "Looking China" International Youth Film Project is co-organized by the Academy for International Communication of Chinese Culture (AICCC), Beijing Normal University and Huilin Foundation. The program focuses on the young participants’ personal experiences of Chinese culture and encourages them to discover and tell Chinese stories from their own perspectives.

As of the year 2017, students from all over the world were invited to participate in the project. They were stationed in 12 municipality, provinces and autonomous regions here in China. Every filmmaker has worked out a 10-minute short film about Chinese culture around the topic of "Craftsmanship·Inheritance·Innovation.”

The movie " A Grain, A Dream," directed by Kaiyan Chong and produced by Wang He, depicts a hard-working man named, Yi Shaofu who lives in Jilin, northeastern China. He owns an organic rice farm that covers 0.5 square kilometers of land.

With the increase of wealth, there are more Chinese who care about quality of food. Organic products are getting more popular in the Chinese market. Yi stands as a pioneer in Chinese farming industry. He insisted on it even when his crops got infested and his friends told him to use pesticides. He said his goal is not to make profit, but to grow organic rice made available to all. So he is willing to share his experiences and knowledge with others.

Food security is a major concern for many Chinese. The overuse of pesticides and environmental pollution make many people worry about the food they consume daily. Yi’s farm is no doubt shedding light on the future of farming in the country. Replacing weed poisoner with ducks, giving way to nature in the course of growing. The harvest may be less in quantity, but so much better in quality.

For Yi, his passion lies in his work. Even when he was on vacation with family, he was still thinking about farming. He believes that making achievements in something he feels determines to do creates genuine happiness.

The movie is well-filmed with a good story line. It's also a stereotype-breaking story, which everyone can enjoy.
