The 2018 Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) under the theme, "An Open and Innovative Asia for a World of Greater Prosperity", is being held on April 8-11 in Boao, a coastal town in the southern island province of Hainan. Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend and deliver a keynote address at the opening ceremony scheduled on Tuesday (April 10).

This is the first major diplomatic event hosted by China after Xi got re-elected as Chinese president in March. Accordingly, China’s diplomacy in the new era starts with the Boao Forum for Asia.

As 2018 marks the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening-up policy, this year's Boao forum is expected to demonstrate new prospects for reform and opening up, explain China's growth in the new era, and set up a new vision on a shared future.

On the occasion of the Boao forum, President Xi is expected to explain how Beijing remains committed to further opening-up and deepening the reform and unveil a set of major new measures for doing so. He will also define China’s stance on further promotion of building a community of a shared future for Asia and humanity and fostering a bright future for Asia and the world.

His attendance will be a good start for this year’s four major home-court diplomatic events and write a new chapter for China’s diplomacy in the new era.
