The Shawo village, China's Hebei province is famous for its ancient folk craft - Shawo woodturning. Hundreds of years ago, nearly every household in the village turned wooden products by a foot-powered lathe. The skill has been passed down from generation to generation.

Woodturning is the craft of using the wood lathe with hand-held tools to cut a shape that is symmetrical
around the axis of rotation.

Shawo village is famous for woodturining which is the main business for villagers.
Making wooden bowls are their unique skills.

The production of woodtuning is exquisite, complicated and demanding.

The whole process is almost done by hand and the production cycle usually takes 3-5 days.

Now, only a few people have the skill.

To protect this endangered handcraft, woodturning has been listed on the list of intangible cultural heritage protection.
