KIGALI, May 29 -- The 19th Chinese Medical Team in Rwanda on Wednesday handed over medical aids to Masaka Hospital in the Rwandan capital city Kigali.

The aids, donated by the Chinese government which entrusted the Chinese medical team to hand over, are selected in line with Masaka Hospital's need, the Chinese medical team told Xinhua after a donation ceremony held in the hospital built with financing by the Chinese government.

The aids include medicines and medical apparatus for the stomatology department.

"This donation is so important for us as a hospital and our people," Director of Masaka Hospital Marcel Uwizeye told Xinhua.

The medical aids will be used to treat the Rwandan people and for education, which means they are going to help in health of the Rwandan people, said Uwizeye.

"We are thankful for the cooperation between the governments (of Rwanda and China) and the Chinese medical team who are working here in our hospital," he said.

The Chinese medical team started working in Rwanda in 1982, and have been providing high quality medical service to Rwandan patients since then, said Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Rwanda Wang Jiaxin.

In recent years, every Chinese medical team donated medical aids to the Rwandan hospital, which have played a key role in providing comprehensive and good health service to Rwandan patients, said Wang.

The medical cooperation between China and Rwanda has existed for a long time, and the scale of the cooperation has been gradually expanding, he said, envisaging closer medical cooperation in the future.
