China's space program has announced that its plan to launch a moon probe is on target for lift off in 2007. On Tuesday, the Chinese Academy of Space Technology announced that the Chang'e One would be ready to head to the moon on time.

This is China's first attempt to launch a probe to the moon. The Chang'e One is named after a beautiful fairy from an ancient Chinese legend. Chang'e One will orbit the moon and map its surface with 3-D imaging. Scientists will use the information sent back to analyze the lunar surface, measure soil density, and perform a general exploration of the moon's environment and space in its near proximity.
