China, AU to strengthen cooperation

President Hu Jintao says China is ready to work with the African Union to develop the China-Africa strategic partnership. He was speaking during his meeting on Monday with visiting Chairperson of the AU Commission, Alpha Oumar Konare.

President Hu noted that China-African ties have developed in the 21st century, with stepped up political exchanges and cooperation in regional and international issues. For his part, Konare said China and Africa are firm friends, and the African Union will try to push forward the friendship. Konare is on a five-day official visit to China.
