China supports new UN council

China has expressed its support for creating the new UN Human Rights Council, and also for a strengthened UN role in the field of human rights.

China's deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, Zhang Yishan, made the remarks after the UN General Assembly adopted the resolution to set up the new council. But he also said the draft resolution does not fully reflect the concerns of many developing countries, including China, over some issues. Zhang also pledged that China stands ready to closely cooperate with all other parties. And also to vigorously take part in the work of the council.
