Bei Shizhang, considered as the "Father of Biophysics" in China, was born in Oct. 10, 1903, at Zhenhai county of east China’s Zhejiang Province. He was the founder, the first chief director and honorary director of CAS’s Biophysics Institute. He was also a pioneer of China’s cytology and embryology sciences. The asteroid 31065 Beishizhang was named after him on the occasion of his 100th birthday.
