What's believed to be the world's oldest gold mine has been discovered just outside the Georgian capital Tblisi. Archaeologists have carried out a series of scientific tests which date the mine back to the 3rd millennium BC.
The earth here is gradually giving up its secrets.
Underneath this small mountain is believed to be the world's oldest gold mine.
Excavation work at the village started in 2005, unveiling caves and tools used by miners thousands of years ago.
Irina Gambashidze, Head of the Excavation Works, said, "Exactly here we found two pieces of ceramics and this was the beginning of the sensational discovery, because it represented the Kura-Araxis period. But we needed more arguments to prove that this mine was that old. Afterwards we did radio carbon dating of the charcoal collected here which corresponded to the age of ceramics and thus we could say these findings represented the early Bronze Age."
