Former French Minister to visit DPRK

2009-11-04 16:24 BJT

France's top envoy for the DPRK says he is on a mission to reach out to the country in order to re-shape Pyongyang's relationship with the European Union. Jack Lang says relations between France and the DPRK are officially non-existent, with regular pressure from the French government to abandon its nuclear program.

However, by sending Lang to Pyongyang next week, French President Nicholas Sarkozy wants to bring new ideas to an old standoff. Among them is possible European aid to DPRK in exchange for nuclear guarantees.
