The chief economist of the National Bureau of Statistics is warning that people should not be blindly optimistic about the Chinese economy because there is still no solid foundation for recovery. But even so, Yao Jingyuan stressed that fundamentals remain robust and are sufficiently so to keep up momentum for future growth.

In an article published Tuesday, the official acknowledged an easing of downward pressure from the global downturn, adding that the economy was on the right track.
