Liquefied Petroleum Gas is often promoted as a clean energy. So questions arose after a recent report presented at the Guangzhou Municipal People's Congress concluded that emissions from buses using LPG are higher than those of buses operating on ordinary diesel fuel.
The city's Environmental Monitoring Center conducted a spot examination of 172 LPG buses. 150 buses, or over 85 percent, met standards in the first round of testing. After repairs, 21 of the 22 failing buses passed.
An official from the center cited lack of maintenance as the cause of high emissions. He says the fact that 21 failing buses met standards after maintenance proves LPG buses conform to environmental requirements.
