Samsung Electronics has ordered the largest recall of South Korean electronic consumer goods. It involves 210-thousand side-by-side Zipel refrigerators manufactured between March 2005 and June of this year. The recall will continue until the end of January.
The recall comes after a Zipel refrigerator produced in 2006 exploded on October 10th in an apartment in South Korea. The company says a heater that prevents the cooling pipe from freezing overheated. Samsung Electronics has the largest refrigerator market share in South Korea.
In China, the appropriate departments have not received any recall notices from Samsung. Gome and Sunning, China's two largest home appliances sellers, have contacted Samsung to make sure this type of refrigerator hasn't been sold here.
