Car recalls going up

The number of auto recalls in China is growing this year.

In April, Guangzhou Toyota recalled nearly 260,000 Camry sedans. In June, Dongfeng Motor and Brilliance Auto also launched part recalls on some of their models. Toyota made its largest auto recall in China at the end of August, totaling 680,000 vehicles.

China launched its first vehicle recall regulation October 1st, 2004. So far, the country issued recalls on more than 3 million vehicles, produced by 56 auto manufactures worldwide. Analysts belive, auto recalls could help the domestic auto sector grow.

Xu Changming, Head of Resources Dev't of State Information Center said "For companies, there is no need to hide or cover up these problems. An auto recall is a normal procedure. Previously, not many manufacturers liked doing it. They feared consumers would lose confidence in the quality of the product. But now, everyone in the industry is doing it. Recalling vehicles is being responsible to consumers. It also benefits manufactures."
