Counterfeit goods flood online shops

Shopping online is becoming ever more popular in China. But anyone who makes his or her purchase with just a click of a mouse, knows what they see on screen may not be the real thing. Counterfeit goods are the plague of e-commerce in China. CCTV reporter reports on just one company that faces this problem every single day.

Xstep is one of China's leading sportswear companies. This is an online shop which says it gets its shoes directly from the manufacturer. However, apart from bearing a similar logo, what it sells is nothing like authentic X-step products.

Wang Qiuyue, Secretary of Anti-Counterfeit Online Product Group said "The packaging is not X-step's, but Blue Eagle's. But the logo on the shoe is X-step, and the shoes cost only 38 yuan."

Director of Quality Supervision of Xstep said "It's impossible that this item could cost 38 yuan, unless it's a fake product. The material is not what we use, the quality is not right. And there should be a tag here, and the name of the factory. Only the logo is ours. This is definitely not authentic. We don't know who started this online shop."

There are tens of thousands of products bearing the Xstep label that are being sold online. But the company says it has not authorized any online business to sell its goods, and has no idea whether products sold online are authentic or fake.
