China's top legislature has adopted an amendment to a renewable energy law that will require electrical grid companies, to buy all the power produced by renewable energy generators.

The amendment, was approved by lawmakers on Saturday, after it was heard for the second time at a five-day meeting of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee. The amendment says the State Council's energy department and the state power regulatory agency will supervise the purchases. It also encouraged power grid companies to work on power transmission technologies, in order to improve the management of electricity networks.

China is aiming to increase the proportion of renewable energy consumption to 10 percent of the country's total consumption in 2010. It's also planning to improve the rate to 15 percent by 2020.
