Solving major wind power bottlenecks

Wind power is still widely believed to be one of China's most important sources of clean energy, as the country strives to boost its efficiency and production. But many hurdles are hampering this emerging industry from taking off.

China's northwestern Gansu Province, is a region rich with wind power resources. Large wind power generators can been seen everywhere in the Gobi desert. After all the generators become fully operational, it could help ease the pressure on electricity supplies in China's power hungry, eastern and northern areas. But many sit idle, due to technical problems on power grids.

Gansu is not alone. Studies conducted by the State Electricity Regulatory Commission showed that two big wind power stations have been set up in Inner Mongolia. But the problem of how to transmit its electricity has not been sovled.
